Our service provides five applications of fertilizer throughout the entire growing season. We generally do the first application in April and the last application (winterizer) in October. Applications are made about every 6-7 weeks on average.

Lawn Salon uses fertilizer that is blended specifically for our use and is formulated for Colorado soil types. Our fertilizer contains minerals / nutrients that the fertilizer many of our competitors use either don’t have, or don’t contain as much of. This makes for a healthier more stress tolerant lawn. We feel strongly about our fertilizer and believe it is the best out there. After we fertilize, we blow off your concrete areas so that there is no staining. Our fertilizer is coated and we refer to it as “kid and pet friendly.”

Helpful Tips & Information:

Be proactive in getting your lawn full and healthy as early in the spring/summer as possible while temperatures are still cooler. Don’t wait until late June, and even more-so, July or August to try to do this. Although it can be done, it will take more effort and water to produce results. Make sure your lawn is its healthiest going into the hottest part of the season.

Soil Builder / Revive

Fertilizer fulfils most needs for a healthy lawn, but there are other minerals and nutrients that help your soil even more. These micro-nutrients and surfactants can help bring your lawn (and soil) to its peak which, in turn, will make your lawn even healthier as well as help it get thru the heat and stress of the hot summer months. Again, Lawn Salon uses a “mix” that is blended specifically for our use, that is for Colorado soils, that is “kid and pet friendly”, and that doesn’t stain your concrete.

Helpful Tips & Information:

The same applies as with fertilization... be proactive in getting your lawn full and healthy as early in the spring/summer as possible while temperatures are still cooler. Although large improvements can still be made during the hot season, it will take more effort and water to produce results. Try to make sure your lawn is its healthiest going into the hottest part of the season.

Lawn Aeration

Aeration is a definite necessity with Colorado's hard clay soils. Lawn Salon recommends at least once a year and many of our customers do both spring and fall aerations. Aeration helps loosen the soil, let moisture and nutrients in, break up thatch, and help your lawn be the healthiest it can be.

Weed & Fungus Control

We spot spray offending weeds at time of fertilization, instead of blanket spraying the entire lawn with unnecessary chemicals. This procedure protects our environment and is more kid and pet friendly.

We offer pre-emergent applications for crabgrass, usually in March.

Leaf blight and narcrotic ring spot fungus are very common in stressed Colorado turf. The best defense is a healthy lawn. We can recommend a customized treatment program for your lawn.

Helpful Tips & Information:

Generally speaking (there are always variations), if your lawn was green last fall and come spring there are brown dead areas, this is usually caused by spider mites. They will usually, generally speaking, hit in dry areas, next to trees or bushes, in the late winter. The best defense is to recognize where these troubled areas recur year after year and water during the winter months before these areas turn brown.

Again, generally speaking, if your lawn is green in the spring and somewhere throughout the summer you start getting brown areas, this is usually caused by fungus and/or blight. You see a LOT of this in our area during the summer months. This could also be an insect/worm/grub problem, but chances are small compared to fungus/blight. Try to make sure those areas are getting good sprinkler coverage and that you are watering in the early morning A.M. hours (3:00am or 4:00am) and not 10:00pm or 11:00pm at night. There are preventative measures one can take that may or may not work well, depending on the season. Ask us about it.

Lawn Restoration

We get lots of calls from homeowners concerned with very thin and unhealthy looking lawns. Many times they think they will have to replace their lawn which can be a hassle as well as very expensive. Most times Lawn Salon is able to bring their lawn to a satisfactory level without the expense of new sod. Sometimes we can even do it without re-seeding, depending on what shape the lawn is in. More times than not, customers are amazed at the difference they see in their lawn within 3 weeks or so. Sometimes, to be able to satisfactorily restore a lawn, sprinkler maintenance may also be needed. Ask us how we can help your lawn look better.

Helpful Tips & Information:

We have impressed a lot of people (and their neighbors) with this service. All we can say is, give us the opportunity to show you what we can do with your lawn. We think you’ll be impressed.

Sprinkler Activation

Lawn Salon will get your system going for the growing season, including setting the clock, going through each zone to check each head for proper pressure and coverage. We commonly find some systems that need a small repair or "fine tuning" to save water and provide better coverage.

Repair work will not be done until approved by the homeowner. Parts and labor are extra if repairs are needed.

Helpful Tips & Information:

We do sprinkler activations the right way. We turn the whole system on, check sprinkler coverage on every sprinkler head, and make sure the sprinkler clock/controller is set correctly. If you’ve been having to make costly repairs every spring to your system, we may know the reason why.

Sprinkler Winterization

Safeguard your system throughout the freezing temperatures of winter by having Lawn Salon blow out your sprinkler system. Our sprinkler blow out procedure includes: turning off water in the basement, draining the line from the vacuum breaker to the basement, hooking up a commercial compressor (will not harm your system) to the vacuum breaker, blowing air through each control valve and zone.. This is very inexpensive "insurance" to prevent costly repairs in the spring.

Take extra precautions to protect your sprinklers until your system is properly winterized!

  • Wrap your vacuum breaker and copper pipe in a blanket or towels. The vacuum breaker is the equipment outside your house. It will have a bell shaped cap on the top.
  • Tape a large plastic garbage bag over the top of the towels or blanket so they do not get wet with changing weather.

Helpful Tips & Information:

We do sprinkler winterizations the right way. Everything is blown out with a commercial air compressor. It will not hurt your system, but has the volume of air (many don’t) to get all of the water out. We also drain back into the house so there is no water left anywhere. Many times we catch a leaky shut-off valve that can cause expensive repairs in the spring.

Sprinkler Repair & Maintenance & Tune-Ups

Lawn Salon provides sprinkler repair services for the whole system, including the clock/controller, vacuum breaker assembly and attached copper pipes, control valves in the box at ground, sprinkler heads, low water pressure, zones not turning on, zones not turning off, and any other issues.

Many sprinkler systems were installed to a minimum level and may not provide acceptable water coverage. As well, many adequate systems are now many years old and may not provide as good of water coverage that they once did. Either way, common results are dry areas within the lawn, more lawn disease in troubled areas, bad areas growing in size, and excessive water usage because of poor coverage. Lawn Salon does a lot of sprinkler system “tune-ups” as we call them. And …. We have never had a customer not see an improvement in their sprinkler coverage! We do a very thorough job of improving sprinkler coverage and helping lawns. Ask for an estimate to help your sprinkler system be the most efficient it can be.

Helpful Tips & Information:

Too many times we see where people will spend dollars on all sorts of things to apply to their lawn, but not consider improvements to their sprinkler system. They work hand-in-hand with each other and if you pay attention to both subjects equally, you will have a better lawn. We can explain this one to you better in person, but will say “just because a sprinkler head looks like it is spraying OK does not mean is has sufficient coverage.” This, in turn, can really hinder your lawn. Ask us about it to learn more.
